FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Why is this now a combined event with the DFWMAS ?
We experienced operational problems during our second annual 2009 coral show. It is very difficult to get a work crew out from California for just one days worth of work. The DFWMAS noticed our difficulties and offered to assist by presenting our Coral Show within their annual Next Wave event in February. That society was also very supportive of our first and second annual events. Those events would not have occured without the tickets sales through the DFWMAS. So their offer of logistical support was a very natural fit. A combined event with a local society or club is something the CFM has always wanted to do, but we could not figure out the best way to accomplish the operation. This will allow us to establish the ground work for a business relationship between the CFM and a local Society.
Why do you prefer to sell vendor booths to Coral Farming vendors ?
Our primary attraction is exotic farmed coral. Our customers expect that a very good selection of corals will be available for sale. When we contact potential vendors for booths we always place more effort on getting coral farming vendors to reserve booths. There are however many Mariculture companies that support coral farming indirectly. As we expand our vendor participation we will be adding more and more non-coral farming vendors as this event grows.
What is the coral used in the background of this web site ?
The image used in the background of this web site is copyrighted by Steve Tyree and is an image of the Miami Hurricane AE Coral from Eric at Fragfarmers. This is also the same coral as the LE Pumpkin Patch coral from Greg Carroll. Both of those coral farmers have been regular vendors setting up booths at our events within California. This coral is one of the first Reverse Watermelon Echinophyllia corals. An image of the original Watermelon coral was used for our first ever CFM event.
What is the coral used on the sides of the top web logo ?
That coral is the Triple Threat Favia coral from Mingwei and Joleen of Atlantis Aquarium. The image is copyrighted by Steve Tyree. Mingwei and Joleen have been frequent vendors at our California events when they are not busy making babies. This was one of the first super exotic Favia corals. Another image of this seed coral also appeared within the 2008 Volume 2 of The Reef Hobbyist Magazine. We thought the coral accurately represented the higher expectations we have for the DA-CFM Event.
